ABOUT US

In March 2016, ten Howard University students founded the student chapter of the National Press Photographers Association (NPPA).  NPPA is an international organization that supports visual journalism for professionals and students. The new chapter at Howard University is NPPA’s first student chapter at a Historically Black College/University (HBCU) institution.

The Howard University chapter was named as the "2016 NPPA Student Chapter of the Year" by the National  Press Photographers Association.

THE MISSION OF THE HOWARD NPPA STUDENT CHAPTER:

Through educational activities and lectures, students will learn to use new multi-media applications, enhancing their ability to become better visual storytellers.

Students will also understand the role of photojournalism and how this style of photography helps to produce complete journalistic stories.

HU-NPPA members also will be exposed to the work of several African-American photographers past, and present and the methods in which they photographed the Black community.
